Lean Burn

Thanks to Suzuki's Lean Burn fuel technology,
you'll be on the water for longer...

Our innovative Lean Burn Control System fuel technology delivers better fuel efficiency and greater fuel savings by predicting fuel needs according to operating conditions and makes fuel-efficient 4-stroke outboards even more economical.

The benefits are delivered over a wide operating range, providing significant improvements in fuel economy from low speeds up into the cruising range and offers reductions up to 45%.

Lean Burn works by using real-time computer processes and sensors to optimise fuel delivery by predicting the amount of fuel you’ll need to get where you need to go. It delivers a precise mixture of fuel to the engine allowing it to run on  a more efficient fuel mixture through the use of a lean air-fuel ratio. This achieves remarkable improvements in fuel consumption ensuring you get the most out of every drop.

Lean Burn was first introduced on the DF70A/80A/90A to great acclaim and is available across the range of “A” Series  in both our Midrange and High Performance engines.

See the facts

In-house testing shows that while cruising, the DF300AP is 14% more economical than the original non-Lean Burn DF300, without sacrificing any power of the original DF300.

*Fuel saving percentages across our entire range of “A” and “TG” Series engines.

  • DF25A/30A = 16%
  • DF40A/50A = 42%
  • DF60A = 45%
  • DF70A/90A/100A/115A/140A = 14%

  • DF150TG = 15%
  • DF175TG = 16%
  • DF200A = 19%
  • DF250AP/300AP = 14%

*Fuel saving percentages are comparative to previous Suzuki DF engines of the same hp.

Comparison of fuel consumption per litre for DF150AP/175AP

Compared to the current DF150TG/175TG, the new DF150AP/175AP offer superior fuel consumption over their full operating range.

Especially the DF150AP, which now incorporates both our Drive By Wire Control system and Variable Valve Timing (VVT), shows an fuel economy improvement of 4% (at 40km/h).
